Abstract

The marine microalgae Chaetoceros sp. and Isochrysis sp. were cultured with 5, 10 and 20 mg-l-1 of the products of zeolitic nature Zestec 56, Zesep 56 y Zeben 06 and generally gave better results than with the control f medium. At the end of exponential growth, Chaetoceros cultures had cell concentrations about 40-50% higher with 20, 10 and 5 mg-l-1 of Zestec, Zesep 56 and Zeben 06, respectively, while the best results were with all concentrations of Zestec 56 and with 5 mgl-1 of the other two products in the case of Isochrysis. During slow growth the best treatment were the same in the case of Chaetoceros, although the differences were numerically less important, while 5 mgl-1 of Zesep 56 and 10 mgl-1 of Zeben 06 and Zestec 56 gave the highest values with Isochrysis. The results obtained with cell concentrations wre confirmed by statistical analysis of relative natality, which compares the number of cell divisions of the treatments to that of the control cultures. They also show that in general the effect of these products is more evident during the exponential phase for Chaetoceros and during slow growth in the case of Isochrysis.
