Abstract

The results of the analysis for polyciclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH'S) of 23 samples of water collected during february (nortwinds season) and october (rainy season) 993 in 15 sampling stations of Mecoacan lagoon in Tabasco states are presented. The analysis were performed by using gas chromatography with capillary columns of high resolution. In february 993, the total concentration for PAH's was 4.26 ug/l within  range of 0.223 to 0.763 ug/l, increasing the double (9.7 ug/l) during october 993 with vlues between 0.375 and 2.810 ug/l, being comparable with those reportes for sites highly industrilized. The results shown that Mecoacan lagoon is polluted by the presence of PAH's whose concentrations are up to 3 orders of magnitud higher than those established for coastal and estuarine waters non-polluted (10 ng/l). Of paramount importance is the presence of Benzo(a)pyrene and Indeno(1,2 cd)pyrene, because their genotoxicity nad carcinogenic properties.
