Abstract

A review of the state of knowledge on the origin, relationships and distribution of the depp water ichthyofauna of the Gulf of California es presented. We conclude there is no sharp difference between the ichthyofaunal assemblages of the Gulf and most of the Eastern Pacific because most of the species are shared. The first representative check list of deepwater fich of the recorded species, including 193 species belonging to 143 genera and 83 families, is provided.
