Abstract

It was experimentally determined that the tolerance to high temperature of the microalgae Nannochloropsis oculata (Droop) Hibberd, 1981, was increased by lowering  the salinity. A better growth at 31  and 33°C was obtained with salinities of 25 and 20% in that order, while de Japanese strain used did not resist cultivation at 35°C with salinities between 20 and 35%. Yields between 3.7 and 6.5g/m2/day with a 33% culture harvest were estimated, which should be increased with the outdoor higher light intensity and the use of CO2.
