Abstract

This paper analyzes the length frequency distributions o fMugil cephalus and M. curema in amiahua lagoon, Veracruz by the application of the methods of Petersen (1892), Cassie (1950, 1954, 1963) and Bhattacharya (1967). Data obtained by Bhattacharya method were the most similar to age determinations by otolith's analysis. The mean lengths obtained for each age group are as follows: M. cephalus: Age "2", 247 mm; Age "3#, 278 mm; Age "4", 311 mm and Age "5", 341 mm. M. curema: Age "0", 170 mm; Age  "1", 224 mm; Age "2", 248 mm; Age "3", 268 mm and Age "4", 288 mm. Recruitment to fishery occurs during June and July, recruits having an average length of 200 mm for M. cephalus and 160 mm for M. curema.
