Abstract

The data obtained from 26 samples of damp surface sediment collected from 26 localities, indicate that Laguna Sontecomapan is shallow (x=1m), warm (x=24°C), predominantly mesohaline (5-18%) and has a clayey-sandy substrate. It harbors a community of benthic mollusks wich includes 60 species of the classes Gastropoda and Bivalvia, with an average similarity percentage greater tham 40%. As a group, the mollusks provide an average information of 1.14 bits/individual. The greter part of the identified mollusks is of marine-brackish origin, the gsatropods are mainly epifaunal and hebivorous grazers and the bivalves are infaunal filter-feeders. Neritin reclivata, N. virgine and Mulinia lateralis are notable for having the gretest values of bundance, frequency and relative density.
