Abstract

33 out the 64 worldly known calcified genera are present in México, meaning a 51.5%. These comprise 157 species. Recent bibliografic accounts stablished the following chages: Liagora pulverulenta is a synonime of L. ceranoides; 5 species are now recognized out of 15 previosly reported for Galaxaura; two of them (G. oblongata and G. fastigiata) have been transfered to the genus Tricleocarpa; from 32 species of Amphiroa reported, 18 are currently recognized as valid entities; two species of Carollina (C. cubensis and C. subulata) have been transferred to genus Haliptilon; synonimy of Litholepis and Dermatholithon with Lithophyllum; as well as Heteroderma with Pneophyllum and Goniolithon of Spongites. The only two species of Tenarea (T. canescens and T. ascripticia) previously reported by national literature, are now tranfered to Lithophyllum; finally, Peyssonnelia inamoena is the correct species instead of P. rubra, specific epitent erroneously used in national literature.
