Abstract

This paper reports the temporal abundances of four species of Pelecaniforms (White Pelican, Pelecanus erythrorhynchos; Brown Pelican, P. occidentalis; Double-crested Cormorant, Phalacrocorax auritus; and Brandt's Cormorant, Ph.  penicillatus) in the Guerrero Negro saltworks (Baja California Sur, Mexico), along and anual cycle. The first is considered a migratory species, while the remaining three establish breeding colonies and remain in the area year round. The most abundant was Ph. auritus (1,806 birds/census), followed by P. erythrorhynchos (156), P. occidentalis (147), and Ph. penicillatus (1.1). Abundances where higher after the breeding season, particularly during winter. Within the saltworks, the preferred resa were those of low salinity, with the exception of those used as roostingsites. Results suggest this as an important area for the post-breeding dispersion, pass and feeding of these species.
