Variación de la densidad y la biomasa de peces juveniles y decápodos epibénticos de la región central de Laguna Madre, Tamaulipas

Abstract

The spatial and temporal variation in density and biomass of juvenile fishes and epibenthic decapods in 1989-1990 in the central region of Laguna Mdre, ws analyzed. Density and total biomass (wet ewight) of fish were 68.82ind m-2 y 8.24g phf m-2 respectively, nad of decapods 76.72ind m-2 y 35.30g phf m-2 , respecetively. Spatially, the maximum catch of fish was taken in the Boca la Liebre and La Coyota Island (63%) while of decapods in Venado Island, Boca la Liebre and Punta Piedra (43%). On seasonal basis, the highest density and biomass of fish ocurred in the dry season (49%) and in the period of winter storms or nortes (46%) respectively. The dominant fish species were Achoa mitchilli, Lagoon rhomboides y Micropogonias undulatus, while Leiostomus xanthurus  had a high biomass. The highest density of decapods occurred during the nortes period (40%) while highest biomass ocurred in the dry season (55%). the decapods with highest density were Hippolyte Zostericola, Farfantepenaeus aztecus, Tozeuma carolinense, Dyspanopeus teanus, Farfantepenaeus duorarum, Litopenaeus setiferus y Palaemonetes pugio, while those highest biomass were Cllinectes sapidus, F. aztecus, F. duorarum y D. texanus. For fish, 40% of total density, 55% of total biomass and 67% of all species were associated with substrates of submerged aquiatic vegetation (SAV). For decapods, 74% of density, 41% of biomass and 73% of all species were found in this habitat. More than 50% of the fish and 73% of the decapod species were residents in SAV. The variation of density and biomass of juvenile fishes and epibenthic decapods showed three patterns of distribution in the study area: species associated with the mouths, inhabitants of substrates with SAV and those having a wide spatial and temporal distribution.
