Abstract

Lemna gibba L. is a vascular aquatic plant that lives in freshwater environments. This plant has been recommended for studies of pollution due to its exponential growth, its small size that makes it easy to handle in the laboratory as well as its resistance at exposure pollutant concentrations. Boron is an essential micronutrient for plants but high concentrations may limit their growth and alter their metabolism. This study describes one and two-dimensional electrophoretic patterns of total soluble proteins of L. gibba in the absence and presence of boron as H3BO3 at concentrations from 0 to 500 ppm. The results suggested that L. gibba has a differential protein expression in response to boron exposition. Techniques used were modified for L. Gibba, because these are specific to broccoli plants, and can be additional tests in environmental monitoring.
