Abstract

This study is the first survey in San Ignacio Lagoon, B. C. S., on the bentonic marine algae. During 1992-93 we sampling once each season at eight sites, located at the mouth, middle and head of the lagoon. We determined 85 taxa: 2 were Cyanophyceae (2.3%), 48 Rhodophyceae (56.5%), 14 Phaeophyceae (16.5%) y 21 Chlorophyceae (24.7%). The taxa were distributed in 28 families, 15 has a single taxon. The families of Cyanophyceae has a single taxon, whereas the best represented to Rhodophyceae was Rhodomelaceae with 16 taxa; to Phaeophyceae were Dictyotaceae and Scytosiphonaceae with 4 species, and to Chlorophyceae was Ulvaceae with 11. To infraspecific level we identified one subspecie and three varieties. Of the taxa, 41% were of wide distribution, 40% of temperate affinity, and 19% of tropical affinity. Thus, the phycoflora of the lagoon is representative of a temperate-warm transition zone.
