Abstract

Vertical and horizontal distribution of the nudibranchs Phylliroe bucephala and Cephalopyge trematoides are described. The specimens were sorted from zooplankton samples collected in 129 localities from the western region of Baja California and the Gulf of California, during two oceanographic cruises. The results shown that these pelagic mollusks did not ocurred in the coastal nearshore stations, and they were recorded only in the Gulf of California. Cephalopyge trematoides was distributed from 27º 37' N to San José del Cabo 23º 07' N, and Phylliroe bucephala was extended from 26º 16' N to 24º 01' N. The study of 62 samples obtained with close-open nets at regular depths between 10 and 600 m indicated that vertical distribution of these nudibranchs was comprised from the surface waters to 60 m deep.
